The strong layout was by Christian Schellewald. The painting influence comes from my awakening interest in Miyazaki's simple handling of tonality and colour. There is very little airbrush work in this picture; just a tiny bit off to the right of the high shelves on the wall. All the colour gradients were achieved through wet-into-wet painting in gouache, using a spray gun full of water to keep the paint just fluid enough to blend. |
