It took a long
time for the design brief to emerge on this movie, and the one
thing nobody had was time.
One good
thing was that I had the opportunity to work with Bill Perkins,
the art director, who struggled long and hard to forge a look
for the animation environments of the film. Space Jam was
a technically very complicated feature to make. It combined
live action, animation, computer generated sets, painted backgrounds
and special effects by the bucketload. So much work was
done and so much bit the dust.
This background
met a curious end. It was actually painted over by an artist
in L.A. Not repainted; physically covered over! So
much for the brotherhood of the brush....
