Play Time
When you upgrade, or start with a new release of Satori, the first thing you should do is create a folder called "Play". As you goof around with all the new features, save everything you do no matter how silly, in this Play folder. It's amazing how useful this folder can become, possibly because while you are playing, you are in a fearless state and therefore much more willing to experiment.
I'll show you mine, if you'll show me yours....
More often than not, my Play folder contains canvases that are not even attempts to do anything specific like painting. I might be applying a new Canvas FX filter twenty times over , just to see what happens to a simple gradient.
Later, you can look in the Object list and see what daft whim overtook you when you were playing, and then maybe even replicate it for some useful work.

I have no idea why I was doing this. |

At least the Object List tells me what I was doing. |

A low - res JPEG showing a single brush stroke that has been copied several times, with a box corner filled rectangle underneath it. |

Here's the list of ingredients. |

Another low-res JPEG of the same canvas, but this time with the Whirl filter applied, and a Canvas FX filter called "Alpha Glow Neon", that gives a zing to the brush stroke. Fun, fun, fun! |

The Objects (circled) that give that special little extra. |

Months
later, the silly canvas comes in useful.
|
I crop a chunk from the edge of the canvas.... |

...rotate the cropped area, and make it the basis for.... |
|
....the cover for my portfolio on CD. I would not normally have started from here. |
Useful, or what? |

Here's another cropped chunk of the original image, used for the back of the CD portfolio. |
So go on and have Fun!
The more fun you have with Satori, the more you learn. One of the most useful aspects of Satori is that it will record exactly what you did in a canvas even when you act in a purposeless way. You can retrieve your working method months later, and put it to good use.
