Extending Satori's picking range even further...
If you find that you haven't enough colour choice using the two canvas files on the previous page, there is an undocumented feature in the Color Palette that allows you to pick colours from images outside the Satori workspace.
This feature is not guaranteed to work every time. This demo shows you how to pick colours from your windows wallpaper.Step One
Make sure that Satori is "floating" over the image of your choice, by using the square button at top right of the Satori workspace. Adjust the size and position of the workspace, and place the Color Palette close to the edge.
The Colour Picker (Eyedropper )in the Colour Cube
Step Two
Click in one of the Colour Cubes at the top of the Color Palette, and hold the mouse or pen button down.
Sampling Satori's subtle range of greys.
Now drag the Eyedropper tool across the Satori workspace, while still holding down the mouse button. The Current Color box will update as you drag.
Step Three
Drag the Eyedropper right out of the Satori workspace, and surprise, surprise! It keeps on sampling!
Now stop where you want to sample the colour and Voila! It's right there in the Current Color box.
Now that's thinking outside the box!
Thanks to Mark Graham of Spaceward Graphics for revealing this startling little feature.
This click and drag method will also allow you to sample colours from the Scratch area of the Color Palette. And There's More!
Thanks to Pat Ziegler for revealing yet another undocumented feature of Satori's Color Palette:
When you use the Eyedropper tool, you can normally take only one sample colour before the cursor reverts to the tool you had been using previously. However, if you hold down the Esc. key on your keyboard, you can keep that little Eyedropper sampling colours for as long as you keep the Esc. key pressed down.
It just keeps on sampling
Brilliant.
