This background is from the second series of Dynamo which dealt with simple science topics for children. Dynamo and his slightly smarter sidekick, Slomo, introduce old BBC Education clips that explore physics and biology.Because the brief was formulated by layers of bureaucratic education committees within the BBC, I decided to paint this picture in Satori FilmFX, so that I could edit everything I painted, when the inevitable changes came along. And they did.Could I put a fence behind Slomo's wigwam? Could I put a fence in front of the pond to stop children being driven mad by the sight of open water and rushing, lemming-like, to watery graves? Could I replace the original tree stump (See next big image in this TV section) with a log pile? Yes, Yes, Yes. If I had I painted this background using traditional media, I would have had to re-paint the whole thing at least four times. With Satori, these changes were (relatively) easy to accommodate.I learned an awful lot about organising my data in Satori from re-doing this painting. You can see the results in the Tutorial: "The Big Picture". |
