This is another combination of traditional
paint and Satori FilmFX. The shot called for a zoom in to a close-up
of a traffic light at the very end
of the central avenue. This would normally be an insane proposition
to: A) paint, and B) shoot, without the use of at least three
"take-over" backgrounds. After scanning, I re-painted
the central close-up section in Satori, which made an infinite
zoom possible. Then I painted several layers of street and house
lights that allowed a section of the city to suffer a blackout
in a separate, cutaway shot. The foreground street lights were
painted on a couple more separate layers that would let the lights
be switched on in sequence, with the use of mattes.
